As we approach game 2 of prison tonight, the roster for the NY Jets is almost where it needs to be. So far camp has been nothing short than a Rexesque reminiscence, but thank God only off the field. On the field the Jets are a completely different team, on both sides of the ball. I will give you my prediction as who makes it and who doesn’t.
Offense
A year ago this unit was as lifeless as a dead corpse floating in a messy water. So much was added, but the biggest question remains.
Quarterback (3): Ryan Fitzpatrick (Starter), Geno Smith, Bryce Petty. (Cut: Jake Heaps & Matt Flynn). Geno getting punched complicated things, but not on the roster. Flynn is here to have a QB for practices, Jake Heaps goes to practice squad.
Running back (4): Chris Ivory (Starter), Bilal Powell, Zac Stacy, Tommy Bohanon. (PUP: Stevan Ridley; Cut: Daryl Richardson, Julian Howsare). Ivory remains the workhorse, with Ridley going to PUP List. Daryl Richardson will be claimed by Rex right after he gets cut.
Wide receiver (6): Brandon Marshall (Starter), Eric Decker (Starter), Devin Smith, Quincy Enunwa (Starter), Chris Owusu,T.J. Graham. (Traded Jeremy Kerley, Cut: Shaquelle Evans, Walter Powell, DeVier Posey, Saalim Hakim, Austin Hill, Jonathon Rumph, Arthur Williams). Kerley has not appealed to Gailey and TB, he will be moved to a team in need of a WR.
Tight end (3): Jeff Cumberland (Starter), Kellen Davis, Jace Amaro. (Cut: Steve Maneri, Wes Saxton). Amaro has been nursing a shoulder injury since March.
Offensive line (9): D’Brickashaw Ferguson (Starter), James Carpenter (Starter), Nick Mangold (Starter), Willie Colon (Starter), Breno Giacomini (Starter), Ben Ijalana, Brian Winters, Jarvis Harrison, Dakota Dozier. (Cut: Oday Aboushi, Brent Qvale, Dalton Freeman, James Brewer, Wesley Johnson, Charles Brown). Aboushi was suspended for a game, but it will not matter.
Defense
This unit has had the biggest turnover form last year’s squad that displayed some dudes nit well known at DB.
Defensive line (6): Muhammad Wilkerson (Starter), Damon Harrison (Starter), Leonard Williams (Starter), Ronald Talley, Leger Douzable, Kevin Vickerson (Suspended: Sheldon Richardson; Cut: Stephen Bowen,T.J. Barnes, Deon Simon, Jordan Williams, Davon Walls). Vickerson gets released once Sheldon returns.
Linebacker (9): David Harris (Starter), Demario Davis (Starter), Quinton Coples (Starter), Calvin Pace (Starter), Lorenzo Mauldin, Jamari Lattimore, Jason Babin, Erin Henderson, Trevor Reilly. (Cut: Joe Mays, Taiwan Jones, Deion Barnes). Mays may force their hand in keeping him.
Secondary (10): Darrelle Revis (Starter), Antonio Cromartie (Starter), Buster Skrine, Marcus Gilchrist (Starter), Calvin Pryor (Starter), Jaiquawn Jarrett, Darrin Walls, Marcus Williams, Dex McDougle, Rontez Miles. (PUP: Dee Milliner, Cut: Curtis Brown, Dashaun Phillips, Keith Lewis, Keon Lyn, Durell Eskridge, Javier Arenas). When Dee returns things get complicated because Rontez is one of the few safeties available.
Specialists (3): Nick Folk, Ryan Quigley, Tanner Purdum. (Cut: Jacob Schum)
