The Steelers 2015 draft class is already being scrutinized within some local publications
There have been many AFC North injuries during training camp, which is a brilliant move by the collective teams. Get all of the injuries out of the way now, so you don’t have to deal with them during the regular season.
Baltimore Ravens
The Ravens have had an up and down week on the injury front.
Good news: Safety Terrance Brooks returned and is off the PUP list. Regarding rookie wide receiver Breshad Perriman, news reports are saying he will be back in a week based on an MRI that showed there was no additional damage.
Bad news: Perriman was day-to-day when first injured on July 30th and hasn’t improved enough to play. Lardarius Webb is still nursing a hamstring injury, and as expected, Dennis Pitta will stay on the PUP list for at least the first six regular season games.
My Take: The encouraging Perriman MRI result doesn’t mean he will suddenly heal faster, so I wouldn’t hold my breath that he will be back in a week. That said, most of the 14 injured players not on the PUP or out for the season should be on the field at some point before the opener.
Cincinnati Bengals
The Bengals have not been hit as hard by the injury bug this season, although losing Vontaze Burfict is certainly a big deal. According to defensive end Micheal Johnson, quick healing might have to do with the ability to pray.
My Take: Whether you are religious or not, I feel as if I’m stating the obvious when I say Johnson’s comments are kind of humorous. If God does in fact answer random prayers for each of the seven billion earth dwellers, I would suggest a pregame prayer asking not to get injured in the first place.
Cleveland Browns
Its obvious the Browns haven’t been saying their prayers, as they have 11 players on the questionable or worse list including a half dozen who were supposed to see significant preseason playing time.
My Take:
Its been a tough training camp so far for the Browns, but on the bright side, most are of the nagging variety and not season threatening. So far.
Pittsburgh Steelers
The Steelers have had a news filled off season, but have mainly stayed injury free minus Mike Adams for OL depth, and a rookie CB drafted to help the defensive backfield. The main concern for Steelers fans is their first round draft pick who lands on the “falling” list.
My Take:
Its a little early to drop the raw physically talented linebacker Bud Dupree off the favorites list, but with the recent picks at similar positions, I can understand the knee-jerk reaction. Give it time, Steelers fans. There is still more than three weeks before the opener, and after that game, he will still be a rookie with just a single game of NFL experience.
