Dolphins: Camp Recap
by: cgc5783
Not my ideal day to cover Dolphins camp as injuries as opposed to who’s making plays took the spotlight.
Dolphins entered todays practice with Charles Clay(knee), Jalil Brown(knee), Pat Devlin(hamstring), Steven Williams(ankle), Caleb Sturgis(groin), Knowshon Moreno(knee) and Mike Pouncey(hip) all out of todays practice. Matt Moore, Brian Hartline and Mike Wallace were also limited.
Start of practice: “Dolphins TE Michael Egnew is walking off the field with a trainer.” “DE Olivier Vernon going inside with trainer.” “And Daniel Thomas now on sidelines with apparent leg injury.” “Randy Starks just got kicked in the groin and is going to the sideline. Kamal Johnson replaced him.” Returned later.
Not what you want to see, though the seriousness of any of the above injuries have yet to be released.
Dolphins are still tinkering with their offensive line. You’ve got to think that they get in ironed out soon so the unit can start to gel together. New wrinkle today was newly signed C Samson Satele (former Dolphin aquired via Wes Welker pick from NE) immediately got first team reps. Sam Brenner did come in and take his place later. There’s a real battle brewing for left and right guard between Shelly Smith, Dallas Thomas, Billy Turner and Daryn Colledge. “Just watched Billy Turner pancake Earl Mitchell. That was an eye opener.” – Omar Kelly
Tannehill didn’t have a solid outing in todays camp with interceptions thrown to Will Davis, Courtland Finnegan and Reshad Jones. It is interesting to note that all three INT’s were intended for WR Kevin Cone. Besides throwing INT’s other tweets of significance: “Just watched Tannehill sidearm a pass. EYE OPENING. A little high, but it had some serious zip.” – Omar Kelly ”
QBs throwing to WRs vs. DBs from 5-yard line…Tannhill lofted sweet pass to Thigpen over Delmas in corner of end zone.” – Chris Perkins ”
Tannehill time to throw, finds a wide open Rishard Matthews down the middle. Offense is settling down.” – Andrew Abramson ”
Tannehill keep on read option…Delmas blitzes right side and Tannehill scoots right past spot Delmas vacated.” – Chris Perkins ”
Tannehill evades Dion Jordan, who was in his passing lane, to hit a quick out to Damian Williams.” – Omar Kelly
Today’s standout player is second year CB Will Davis(last years camp sensation) who was noted as HOT. Davis came up with a pick-six and two pass breakups. It’s much too early in his career to make these types of comparisons, but word on the street is that he is reminding folks of Terrell Buckley. Buckley was known for big plays. Only issue with that is Terrell took risks. Sometimes they payed off and he could make a timely pick and take it to the house, other times he’d jump a route and get beat over the top…badly. Will Davis seems to take similar risks and are paying off more often than not.
