The initial Free Agency period is over and most of the big name guys have been signed and teams have a pretty good idea what they need to do in the draft.
1st) Marcus Mariota QB from Oregon
The Jets bolstered their secondary with Revis, WR with Marshall and get the hopeful franchise QB in Mariota. Marcus has the size, arm strength and tools to be an elite QB. He can make all the throws and is athletic enough to extend plays. The only problem with him and why he is not the #1 QB is the system he ran in college didn’t ask him to make many NFL reads or NFL throws. He has the ability to develop into a guy who constantly make those throws but like RG3 and Cam before him, it was something he wasn’t asked to do often. He is going to have his bumps but the Chan Gailey offense is a perfect fit for it as it spreads the defense out and makes simpler reads as he progresses. Probably won’t be a top 10 QB his rookie year or sit on the bench for most of it, but if developed properly, could end up a top 5 QB.
2nd) Owamagbe Odighizuwa DE/OLB from UCLA
The Jets have a couple solid front four guys in Sheldon and Wilk but their Linebackers are a lot to be desired especially rushing the passer. Owamagbe has a nice blend of size and speed and is very disruptive as a pass rusher. His name is also very hard to pronounce which is will make the NY Media have some fun. With the Jets looking to be a defense first team, they could use some guys to rush the passer and let Revis be Revis.
3rd) Byron Jones CB/S from UCONN
Jets bolstered their secondary already with Buster Skrine and Revis but could use some more guys especially with Millner not being healthy. Jones originally played safety before being kicked to CB in college and has a good blend of size and speed to be a press corner that Bowles loves.
4th) Cedric Ogbuehi OT from Texas A&M
Cedric was considered a top 15 pick before suffering a knee injury in his bowl game. He played RT and LT in college and was pretty well in both but his injury has caused him to drop as teams do not know when he will be 100%. Jets can snag him in the 4th and if healthy for training camp he can start at RT immediately and boost the OL. Otherwise if he is not healthy right away he can play guard in a pinch and be the starting LT or RT in 2016. He is a steal in the 4th and the Jets won’t say no to that.
7th) Michael Dyer RB from Louisville
Jets have Chris Ivory and Bilal Powell but could use another RB. Dyer is extremely talented but has had trouble with the law which has caused him to be kicked out of two schools and pretty much lucky to be drafted. He might be a good #3 back who could develop to a starter, but he is worth a 7th round pick.
