Boys, it’s almost time for real, actual football. The excitement is palpable, unless you’re a Patriots fan. In which case you feel an overwhelming sense of dread tinged with a minute quantity of ill-placed hope. Welcome to 2001-2017 for the rest of the AFC East. So… what is one burning question per team?
The Jets – Reports from training camp suggest that Aaron Rodgers, when he’s not high off his gourd on some bizarre plant, could potentially be serviceable in 2024. Is the 40 year old coming off a major leg injury going to revert to his back-to-back MVP form or is the fading, aging veteran we saw in 2022 the real Aaron Rodgers now?
The Patriots – Drake Maye has practiced four times and the doomsayers up in Massachusetts are already saying he’s not good enough. I’m fairly sure Vinny is channeling his magical eye test energy into every Patriots beat writer. At what point will we see Drake Maye starting in 2024?
The Dolphins – The original burning question was going to be when will the Dolphins overpay Tua and by how much, but we already know the answer was Sunday, July 28th and by a lot. So the new burning question is, can the O-line protect the 212 million dollar man or will we see another parade of injuries when a DL breathes near him?
The Bills – Saving the best for last, as always, reports from Bills training camp suggest that the rumors of the Bills’ offensive collapse following the departure of Stefon “Drops surefire TDs in the playoffs” Diggs are greatly exaggerated. The theme seems to revolve around employing a lot of pretty good players, instead of feeding a star WR, and using them to attack the middle of the field. I wonder who on earth could have predicted such an evolution of this offense, but I digress. The burning question remains, can Josh Allen somehow elevate his game even further and actually compensate for the inevitable defensive collapses and boneheaded in-game decisions that are sadly becoming the hallmark of the Bills under Sean “McClappy” McDermott?
Time will tell…
