AFC East 2014 Draft Class
Here is a look at this years rookie class from the AFC East at the midway point of the season and how they’ve done so far.I’ve left out some of the later picks who haven’t really played much but included UDFAs who have.
Buffalo Bills
1st rd/ WR Sammy Watkins: 8G-8GS-38Rec-590Yds-5TDs-214YAC -(3)100yd games- (1)game winning td
2nd rd/OT Cyrus Kouandjio: 0Games played so far
3rd/ ILB Preston Brown: 8G-6GS-60ComTkl-1Fr-1Int-1Pd-team’s leading tackler
4th rd/ CB Ross Cockrell:0Games played so far
5th rd/ G Cyril Richardson: 5Games played-4Starts
7th rd/ OT Seantrel Henderson:Has started every game this season
Best player so far- without a doubt it has to be Sammy, he’s had his rookie moments dropping the ball but he’s looked like a legit #1 WR.
Honorable mention- Preston Brown has done his part making up for the loss of Kiko while Seantrel Henderson has started every game as a 7th round pick.
Miami Dolphins
1st rd/ RT Ja’Wuan James:Has started every game this season
2nd rd/ WR-KR Jarvis Landry:8G-30Rec-301Yds-2Tds-186YAC/31.3KO average is 3rd in NFL- AFC S/T Player of the Month for October
3rd rd/ G Billy Turner:0Games played so far
4th rd/ CB Walt Aikens:8G-4Tckles-1Int
5th rd/ LB Jordan Tripp:2G-2Tackles
7th rd/ DE Terrence Fede:5G-1Sack-7Tackles
UDFA/ TE Gator Hoskins:5G-2Rec-21Yds hasn’t lived up to fishfan’s expectations yet
Best player so far- My vote would go to Ja’Waun James for solidifying the right tackle position.Has clearly been one of the best offensive lineman so far from this draft.
Honorable mention- Jarvis Landry could have been considered for the best rookie so far too. Has filled in nicely as the team’s #2 WR while also landing among the league leaders in kickoff returns.
New England Patriots
1st rd/ DT Dominique Easley:8G-2GS-1Sack-1Int-5Tackles
2nd rd/ QB Jimmy Garoppolo:3G- 9/10-90Yds-1Td- 138.rating
3rd rd/ C Bryan Stork:6Games played-4Starts
4th rd/ RB James White:2G-9Rushes-38Yds-4.2carry
4th rd/ T Cameron Fleming:4Games played-2Starts
6th rd/ DE Zach Moore:4G-.5Sack-2Tackles-1FF-1FR
UDFA/ CB Malcolm Butler:6G-8Tackles-4passes defensed
Best player so far- My vote would go to Bryan Stork for solidifying the center position.Pats have gone 3-1 since naming him the starter
Honorable mention- Malcolm Butler has turned into this years version of Bill Belichick’s yearly undrafted free agent finds. He’s been pretty solid when given playing time this year.
New York Jets
1sr rd/ S Calvin Pryor:9G-7GS-18Tackles-2Passes defensed-.5sack
2nd rd/ TE Jace Amaro:9G-3GS-32Rec-285Yds-1Td
3rd rd/ CB Dexter McDougle:on Injured Reserve
4th rd/ WR-KR Jalen Saunders:Released by Jets,currently on Arizona practice squad
4th rd/ WR Shaq Evans:on Injured Reserve
UDFA/ WR-KR Walt Powell:4G- 8KOreturns-233ReturnYards-29.1 Return average
Best player so far- Calvin Pryor might be the lone bright spot in the Jets secondary to this point of the season.Should only get better in the coming years when NY’s front office surrounds him with better cornerback play.
Honorable mention- Jace Amaro is 2nd on the team in receptions and yards and has been a solid option for Jets QBs when the offense has been able to get things going.
My Vote for best rookie in the East so far goes to Sammy Watkins. He’s been pretty impressive so far and should only get better. We can all debate was he worth what Buffalo gave up to get him,but that deal is already paying off in the win column for the Bills with his game winning td vs the Vikings and his huge catch on the final drive vs the Lions that put the team in FG range to win the game.
I think 2nd best would be a tie between Ja’Waun James & Bryan Stork. James has played in more games and has been a huge part of Tanny staying upright for most of this season but Stork has been just as important in the reworking of the NE offensive line at the beginning of the season. Its no coincidence that once Stork took over at center NE’s OL play has been night and day better than it was in the 1st quarter of the season.
