AFC North Afternoon Roundup

AFC North Afternoon Roundup
class="post-date-wrap left relative post-date-mob">

And the confusion continues.

The AFC North is mired in it.  All four teams currently sport winning records, which places them ahead of every other division in the NFL, all of whom have a true subpar team to kick about.  The AFC North teams also are all still very much alive for taking the division.

Guess that’ll have to be solace for Ravens fans this week…

Enjoy today’s links…

Baltimore Ravens

After the dismissal of cornerback Chykie Brown, the Ravens promoted cornerback Tramain Jacobs from the practice squad.

My Take:  Despite the glowing nature of this camp report, there are reasons why Jacobs didn’t make the 53-man roster.  Jettisoning Brown was necessary, though, and it won’t hurt to give Jacobs a chance and see how he responds.

Cleveland Browns

The Browns need an AFC North road win very badly.

My Take:  To be taken seriously in the division?  Yes, they do.  This season has been about breaking bad habits for the Browns, and this is no different.

Cincinnati Bengals

Running back Giovani Bernard, cornerback Leon Hall and offensive tackle Andre Smith did not practice on Tuesday and are doubtful to play Thursday night..

My Take:  Of the three, I expect the loss of Smith will sting the most, as the Browns will undoubtedly stack their pass rush to his side.  Expect to see a lot of help alongside backup tackle Marshall Newhouse.

Pittsburgh Steelers

Safety Troy Polamalu and linebacker Ryan Shazier have been ruled out of Sunday’s game against the Jets.

My Take:  If there’s any game on the schedule to miss and recuperate, it’s this one against the woeful Jets, who, at this writing, are a home 4.5 point underdog.  That will only increase before kickoff.
