It’s gotten to the point in the season where the pretenders and the contenders are supposed to separate themselves and prove their legitimacy.
What, then, does this say about the AFC North, where one game separates every team in the division, all are at least two games over .500, and all have registered costly divisional losses?
Confusion seems to be the only constant in our beloved division, which seems to be hallmarked by an astounding lack of consistency.
At least you can count on the latest news and reports from thesidelinereport.com. Stop laughing, dammit.
Enjoy today’s afternoon links.
Baltimore Ravens
Safety Matt Elam’s playing time has been dropping.
My Take: Elam simply hasn’t produced, so despite his draft position, there’s little need to continue to insert him into the starting lineup or depend on him for substantial minutes. It appears he needs some remedial tackling instruction before he’s be deemed capable of logging significant minutes again.
Cleveland Browns
The Browns are a surprising contender.
My Take: Yes indeed. As the article points out, the Browns are experiencing the typical ups and downs that successful teams usually go through, and have reacted better than in years past when dealing with adversity. It will be interesting to see how they react during the stretch run of November and December.
Cincinnati Bengals
The Bengals’ rush defense will face a major test this Sunday in New Orleans.
My Take: The Saints aren’t generally viewed as a rushing team, but given the recent spurt by Mark Ingram and company, the Bengals should be preparing for the worst. Getting linebacker Vontaze Burfict back from injury – as yet undetermined – would help considerably.
Pittsburgh Steelers
Jets head coach Rex Ryan voiced his emotions after the game Sunday.
My Take: Stay classy, Rex. And congratulations for keeping your job…this week.
