Lets get down to business:
With the loss of mayo how will the Jets deal with the violent running of Chris Ivory
Losing mayo will be tough to overcome. However, the Pats lost him in week 6 last year as well and were still good enough to make the AFCCG. I’d say they will move Hightower inside like they did last year. Also, it appeared that moving Chung up into the box worked pretty well against the Bills running backs. (he can’t cover anyone so might as well make him tackle guys…)
The Jets usually win just enough games to ensure that they don’t have a great draft pick. Do you think this is the week the Jets break their losing streak?
Jets are heading into the lions den this week. We already know how tough their schedule has been to this point, but there is nothing as tough as beating Tom Brady in NE, and his record at home backs that up. I do think the Jets front will get to Brady and make him rattled and erratic at times. I also think the Jets will have success running the ball against the Pats thin LB corps. On the flip side if the Jets want to win they need to play Antonio Allen at Safety against Gronk or he’ll be running free all game just like Gates and J. Thomas. Ultimately, I think the Pats win I’m basing this entire prediction on the fact that the game is in Gillette and nothing else. However, i wouldn’t be surprised to see another Pats/Jets close game with an upset.
In recent weeks the Pats OL has been getting healthy but how do you think they will be able to handle the elite pass rush of the Jets?
Well the Jets’ front four is awesome, but the majestic Stork should be making his return to the lineup this week so they should be just fine…In all seriousness though, we heard the same thing about the Bills. With the pats it’s the same every week, they’ve got to be able to establish the running game and employ play actions as well as quick drops for Brady. The best way to beat the Jets is to use their aggressiveness against them.
If they can’t find a way to win, how many losses in a row will it take to get Rex his sweet release from the team?
I’m likely one of the few here at the AFCEnews board that doesn’t think Rex gets fired this year. I’m also one of the few Jets fans in general here. That being said Rex won’t get fired mid season. If the intentions were to fire him mid-season why extend him at all. Looking at the schedule the Jets FO couldn’t have expected much from them at this point so in essence the season is going like we thought it would. I put some thought into this last night and made a realization. I obviously think Idzik is sabotaging Rex by not spending money to upgrade the secondary even though they were 20 mil under the cap last offseason. I don’t think this is going to work in Idziks favor. I think most fans know that Idzik didn’t do anything to help Rex out for the most part. The fact that Rex has been one of the better coaches the Jets have seen, I cant imagine this sitting well with the fanbase. I think if one goes, they both do. Jets end up with a top 10 draft pick a little more than 20 mil under the cap before extensions and a GM/HC vacancy. That’s attractive to all and any. Keep in mind the Jets D has been good enough to keep them in games with lights out offenses.
With Amaro getting worked into the offense more and more and his gronklike body how do you anticipate the Pats dealing with him?
Well 10 catches for 68 yards does not scare me too much, but I fully expect the Pats to handle Amaro the same way they handle every other Tight End in the league; let him run free and hope that the QB throws a bad pass. I’m fully confident that if the Pats force the Jets to dink and dunk the ball down the field for 10-15 plays they will make a mistake and stop themselves.
The Jets’ front four are fairly awesome, besides them who should pats fans be worried about on the defense?
Damario Davis the stud of the defense. Davis is one of the best pass rushing line backers in the league so far in his young career. Last year he graded out as a top 10 pass rushing LB by PFF and this year he has been playing just as well. Additionally, a guy who was known to be a joke the last few years has really come on. Shockingly enough Coples was another top “pressure” guy last year but didn’t land enough sacks for him to get recognized as playing well. He has been a beast in the run game so far this year taking out 2 rbs behind the line. When I say taking out I mean injuring. Lastly I think if Antonio Allen moves back to Safety (he didn’t play Safety or CB last game) it could be troublesome for Gronk. The 2 have met before when Gronk finally reached 100% last year and got force fed. Gronk still had a nice day but for 17 targets it was just ok. That should be the highlighted matchup to watch.
With Ridley going down I’d imagine jets will try to force the Pats to run the ball by dropping 7-8 back. How do you expect the Pats to counter this?
Branden Bolden, Shane Vereen and James White. Bolden has been around just as long as Ridley and has put up some big numbers in division games. He’s certainly not fast, but then again neither was Ridley. Vereen is a guy that will be able to take advantage of the Jets’ pass rush on draws and quick screens, and if they slow down to stop him Brady will have a field day. Now lastly, White is the most intriguing option here. I have no doubt that Bill will force Josh to hand the ball off to him quite a bit because he is the only Patriot RB that will be under contract next year and we all know that Bill will be looking for any available option rather than paying a running back 2nd contract dollars.
Is Geno just playing out the final days of his career (in NY) or do you think there is a scenario (a reasonable one) where the Jets don’t take a QB early in the 2015 draft to replace him?
Tough to say. I think if the Jets are looking at Mariotta or Winston they take him. If not they’ll probably draft a mid round guy to compete with Geno. Geno is obviously going to take the bulk of the blame because of his turnovers, but lets be clear on one thing, its not all on him. The OL has been hot and cold all year. Some games Geno has all day and some games he’s running for his life. I always say that a good QB makes good WR’s and I still think this is true. However, the Jets receivers drop the ball when they are open most of the time adding to Genos horrid numbers. I personally feel its tough to move on from a guy who has shown he can make every throw in the game, has a big time arm and really flashes at times. I think he needs to become more consistent and I do think Geno can play. However, with the pressure of the NY media I’m not sure if he makes it into the 3rd year. One thing to watch is that Idzik clearly does not crack under the NY pressure. The offseason is panning out to be an interesting one.
Excellent job guys, we all appreciate the time it took do this.
Now for a prediction?
It’s going to be a rainy night on Thursday (according to my weather lady) so I expect a lower scoring game. Pats win 20-10
Final score NE 28 Jets 24
