In the third of a series, for the second straight year, I will pick a player from each AFCE team. This is the player I think has a breakout year; a year that makes people take notice. Today we look at the New England Patriots.
When your team wins the division regularly and then the SB, it is not easy to find a player that is about to have a breakout year. The easy choice is Dominique Easley, however his trips to the infirmary will hold him back another year. I’m going with Malcolm Butler.
Butler is entering his 2nd year, and he’s out of that football factory in the North East, The UConn Huskies. The young man is 5’11”, 190 lbs. from Vicksburg, MS. He attended West Alabama.
The Patriots lost both starting CBs in free agency. Bradley Fletcher was signed to play one side, and second year SB hero, Malcolm Butler is slated to play the other. Butler has very little experience, but he is ready to build on his heroics form February.
Strengths:
Good agility
Smooth change of direction
Takes good angles to the ball
Stays in control
Intelligent
Outstanding instincts
Good speed
Weaknesses:
Could be exposed in man to man schemes
Little experience
When the year is all said and done, Butler will not let anyone forget Revis, but he maybe a better version of Browner. Butler has beaten the odds even to get in to the NFL, I have the feeling he will continue to do so.
