This is the first practice with the Miami Dolphins for QB Brady Quinn who said “I thought I was going to Miami. It’s crazy to think (seven) years later now, I finally made it here.” Yeah, most of us did too. Dolphins are looking to boost their backup QB situation. Seth Lobato didn’t have a solid showing in Fridays preseason opener and it doesn’t look like he’s doing any better in camp. Here’s where he picked up today, James Walker writes “#Dolphins Seth Lobato just tried to throw the football against the D and the ball slips out of his hand and falls behind him.”. Only helmets and shorts today after a hard hitting practice yesterday, so lets check out the action.
Cortland Finnegan, who missed practice last two days dealing with a death in the family, is back working today. – Armando Salguero
Rookie wide receiver Jarvis Landry is getting some first-team red zone snaps in team drills now. – Armando Salguero
Wheeler INT on pass by QB Seth Lobato. Nice athletic play. Followed by Koa Misi PBU vs. Dion Sims. LBs strong early. – Chris Perkins
Will Davis knocks down a pass to Brandon Gibson during goal line one-on-ones. Davis has a knack for finding the ball. – Omar Kelly
Brian Hartline just smoked Cortland Finnegan for a 1-on-1 goal line TD. Don’t try to jump Hartline’s route. He’s tricky. Double moves you. – Omar Kelly
Miller middle for short gain…S Jimmy Wilson still working with starters in place of Reshad Jones. – Chris Perkins
11-on-11 in red zone: Tannehill hits Wallace for a TD as both Grimes & a safety were in coverage. Offensive sideline erupted #Dolphins
Tannehill complete to K Miller on far sideline. Then complete to Sims. Then complete up the seam to Gibson #Dolphins – Greg Likens
Cortland Finnegan is now the first team nickel & Jamar Taylor handles the boundary. I expect that to be what Kevin Coyle uses moving forward – Omar Kelly
Landry excellent catch while falling out of bounds on Matt Moore pass. Good hands, good feet. – Chris Perkins
Interesting blitz package there. Finnegan woulda had sack from edge but OV lined up as MLB. Creative. – Chris Perkins
Rishard Matthews just made a great leaping TD in end zone from Tannehill. – Andrew Abramson
Some interesting things to note today. Looks like Finnegan is moving inside to a nickle position as Jamar Taylor is getting a solid look opposite Brent Grimes. Will Davis is still taking too many risks for the staff to feel comfortable with him starting on the boundary. Landry also moving up the depth chart, as most of us expected, especially makes sense to have his sure hands in the Red Zone where he got a lot of work today.
Due to the Jones suspension Jimmy Wilson has taken his place, but they’ve alternated the safeties. Delmas is now the SS and Wilson at FS. With Delmas’ injury it makes sense to go ahead and groom Wilson at FS, this way when Jones(SS) comes back, Wilson could take Delmas’ place at FS in case of injury.
