Welcome to the Sideline Report’s First Official Mock Draft Championship.  This is your opportunity to prove that you know more than the NFL Media and your colleagues about the NFL Draft.

This competition is free to join, but you also have the option to contribute $5 to an online winner-take-all draft pool.  Only paying members are eligible to win the pot.  If a non-paying member wins the draft championship, then the highest ranked paying member wins the money.  In the case that a non-paying member scores the most points, then they can look forward to a glamorous article written by yours truly lauding their NFL draft intellect.

The competition point structure works like this:

Each player gets 1 point for every correct portion of the draft in a given selection.
  • 1 point for correct player at the correct pick.
  • 1 point for correct team at the correct pick.
  • 1 point for predicting a trade at the correct spot.
At most one can get a total of 3 points on just one pick if all of them are correct.  Here is an example scenario:

The Buffalo Bills have traded into the #1 spot with Houston and selected Jadeveon Clowney.  The table below shows the various point scenarios that could occur.

Scenario Pick Player Team Trade Points Earned
#1 1 Clowney (1pt) Houston No 1
#2 1 Manziel Bills (1pt) Yes(1pt) 2
#3 1 Clowney(1pt) Bills(1pt) Yes(1pt) 3
#4 1 Ebron Ravens Yes(1pt) 1

We have included a draft cheat sheet and other useful information below that will help.

[wpspoiler name=”Is The Draft Championship Game Legal?” open=”true”]It’s Legit: TheSidelineReport.com Draft Championship Follows the Rules.

TheSidelineReport.com is a US-based company operating from Delray Beach, FL that offers the draft Championship game in compliance with federal law. The game is 100% legal, based on the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act (UIGEA).

Fantasy sports games are exempted under the 2006 UIGEA as long as three criteria are met:

  • All prizes and awards offered to winning participants are established and made known to the participants in advance of the game or contest.
  • All winning outcomes reflect the relative knowledge and skill of the participants and are determined predominantly by accumulated results of the performance of teams (athletes in the case of sports events) in multiple real-world sporting or other events.
  • No winning outcome is based:
  1. On the score, point spread, or any performance or performances of any single real world team or any combination of such teams; or
  2. Solely on any single performance of an individual athlete in any single real-world sporting or other event.

The Sideline Report follows these federal requirements for the game we offer. Unfortunately, a handful of states (including Arizona, Iowa, Louisiana, Montana, Vermont, Washington, and Puerto Rico) have unclear laws or other restrictions that make it difficult to offer the game in a money pool format. We regret we cannot accept deposits from residents of those states at this time.
